The woods

By Niamh Kerr, year 7, St Sampson’s School

Another footstep came towards me. A shadow followed. I could tell this was it. The terrifying creature began coming closer and closer. All of a sudden the frightening animal jumped out of the woods and landed right in front of me! A moment passed as we looked into each other's eyes. "Oh" I whispered "you're not as scary as I thought". He stood in front of me with his torn clothes, his matted hair and his terrifying face. Yet somehow he seemed slightly kind. Like I knew he wasn't going to hurt me. A clatter came from deep in the woods and his attention diverted somewhere else. As I slowly stepped back he began to sniff out the air, he snarled and a thick strand of saliva dribbled from his lips. This man was wearing washed out jeans covered in blood, dirt and all other nasty things. He had clearly grown out of them by now and they were all ripped and tatty. That was the only item of clothing he was wearing and the rest of his body was painted in filth. "W-what is your name?" I said, trying not to show my fear, but he just gave me a strange look and carried on staring into the dark forest that surrounded us. I then took a closer look at the creature while he spent his time sniffing and patrolling the area. His hair was like dreadlocks. Thick, knotted, dirty dreadlocks. The man looked like he hadn't had a wash in years. "Uh, um, who are you?" I asked again but he just smiled at me and ran back into woods.
